Kaya Chikitsa deals with various physical and psychological diseases like Fever, Rakta-pitta (bleeding disorders), Arthritis, Shotha (Edema), Skin Diseases, Prameha (Diabetes), Liver Diseases etc. Kaya means body, which constitutes the bedrock for health and diseases. This Ayurveda medical approach - equivalent to general medicine in modern bio sciences - at treating general systemic diseases recorded in Charaka Samhita focuses on rejuvenating the body by improving immunity against diseases and preventing recurrence of diseases. Measures such as diet, daily regimen, therapies and natural medications focus on restoring the equilibrium of the body.
Kaya also refers to the ‘digestive fire’. Ayurveda propounds that diseases are caused by imbalance of the digestive fire (Agni), and seeks to correct the same in the pathway to restoration of health.
